Week 6

MTV is taking over the world. Although this is not completely true, it is starting to make people think if shows on television are really good for our children. In today's society people have become obsessed with reality television and what reality stars are doing today. When we think about our children and what they do in their spare time it can be very difficult to understand why they like shows like 16 & Pregnant and Teen Mom.
MTV has become so huge with shows like this but there are getting some very concerned parents calling and complaining that these shows are not giving children good role models. Parents are now fearing that children are watching these shows and wanting to become like theses "parents" they see on television who are making huge stacks of money just for having kids. Recently a Amber Portwood from Teen Mom announced that she makes 28k a year just for being on MTV (Today 2010). MTV is a great network but, as a parent we need to make sure that we monitor what are kids are watching so that the TV is not the one educating our children. If we let children watch TV about sex we need to make sure that after it is over we talk about what they just watched and then show them that it is TV and things don't always end up like they do on MTV.
